We record on Riverside. It runs in your web browser. It saves your video on your computer while you talk. So please do these three things.

Do these three things

Use a computer. Not a phone.A laptop or desktop is best. A phone can run out of room. Then the recording is lost.
  • GoodMacBook, iMac, Windows laptop or desktop.
  • Not goodiPhone, Android, iPad.

Use Google Chrome. Keep it up to date.Old versions can drop the recording.
  • HowOpen Chrome. Click the three dots at the top right. Click Help. Click About Google Chrome.
  • ThenIt updates on its own. If it asks, click Relaunch.
  • NeverDo not use a private or Incognito window.

Have 5 GB of free space.Riverside needs this room on your computer. More is better.
  • MacApple menu, System Settings, General, Storage.
  • WindowsStart, Settings, System, Storage.
  • Not enough?Empty the trash. Delete old downloads.

1 week beforeWe email you the link and the time. Do the three things on page 1.
Want a test call first? Reply to our email.
The day before
  • Restart your computer.
  • Find headphones. Wired earbuds are great.
  • Pick a quiet room.
15 minutes before
  • Plug in your computer.
  • Put on your headphones.
  • Open the link in Chrome.
  • Click Allow for camera and mic.
  • Close other apps and tabs.
  • Turn off any VPN or ad blocker.
  • Say hello. The mic bar should move.
While recordingJust talk. Stay on the Riverside tab. Do not refresh. The call may look choppy. Your recording is still clear.
When it endsDo not close the window. Wait for Upload Complete. If it says Uploading, you are not done.

2Look and sound good

Wear headphones.They stop echo.
Face a window or a lamp.Light in front of you. Not behind you.
Camera at eye level.Put books under your laptop.
Sit near your Wi-Fi box.Or plug in a cable.
Keep the room quiet.Phone on silent. Door closed.
Use the earbud mic.In Riverside, pick it as your mic.

3If something goes wrong

ProblemDo this
No camera or micClick the little icon next to the web address. Allow camera and mic. Reload the page.
"Running out of disk space"Tell your host. Free up space. Refresh the page. Join again with the same link.
Internet droppedGet back online. Click the same link again. The recording keeps going.
Closed the window too soonOn the same computer, in the same browser, go to riverside.com/upload. Wait for it to finish.
